The West Tamar Community Car is a non-profit, volunteer-run service that assists people living in the northern end of the West Tamar Municipal Area to access health and community services.  It is a partnership between the Beaconsfield District Health Service who coordinate the volunteers, and the West Tamar Council who provide the vehicle.

Client Eligibility

All clients need to be referred by their GP and assessed for eligibility.  Enquiries and bookings can be obtained by calling the Beaconsfield District Health Service on 6702 6060.

 

Eligible passengers (as referred by their GP) are those who:

  • are disadvantaged in some way;
  • do not have the opportunity to access public transport; and/or
  • do not have the assistance of family, friends or other support/community transport agencies.

Costs

The West Tamar Community Car is a non-profit service, providing door to door assistance however a user-pays system is in place to assist with recovering vehicle operating costs. The prices listed below are for return trips and clients may have a carer accompany them at no extra  cost.

 

Local trips: $15.00 

Beaconsfield - Launceston: $20.00 

Greens Beach - Launceston: $25.00

 

The West Tamar Community Car Executive Group is thankful to the numerous businesses, clubs and organisations that make donations to this service, ensuring that the price can be kept manageable for clients. Donations can be made at any Council office.
