The West Tamar region is home to many trails that provide opportunities for a range of users including walkers, runners and cyclists. These trails provide opportunities for transport, exercise, recreation and sight-seeing for residents and visitors. This study has been undertaken with the goal of providing the strategic direction to guide the development of trails within the municipality towards a comprehensive trail network that is accessible for all and promotes active living, recreation and encourages tourism.
The West Tamar Trails Strategy was developed to better understand the inherent constraints and opportunities that exist within the municipality for trail improvements. The Strategy provides the guiding principles and standards for potential investment in this portfolio. The trail works contained within the strategy are ambitious and aspirational. In order to deliver projects of this size and complexity Council will need to seek funding partnerships and collaborate with other key stakeholders including government agencies, recreational groups and peak bodies.
