The Tamar Valley as a whole is promoted through Tourism Tasmania (our Statewide government tourism body) as Tasmania’s oldest and largest wine region.
Known for pairing good drinking with fine food and an array of scenic and historic sights. Our visitors sample the winemaking talent of the Tamar Valley, where vines blanket the riverbanks and the slopes beyond, mixed with encounters among the cutest critters imaginable and a collection of intriguing museums.

Tourism signage for business operators
Tourism Signs fall into two categories:
1. Tourism Feature (Attraction) Signs – Directs visitors to natural, cultural, and historic features and attractions (may be commercially focused or provide free entry). White legend on a brown background.
2. Tourism Facility Signs – Direct visitors to tourism related commercial facilities and services (e.g., accommodation, tea rooms, restaurants, wineries, craft shops, etc.). Yellow legend on a blue background.
The primary function of these signs is to guide travellers to their chosen destination, not to advertise.
Tourism signage applications and approvals are the responsibility of the Department of State Growth who can begin the process with contact made by email to permits@stategrowth.tas.gov.au or by the telephone number indicated on the website to discuss the business operator needs.
Business operators will be required to complete an online Application Form for Department of State Growth.
• For State Government Road network DSG will administer the approval and installation process, and future maintenance and removal requirements.
• For Local Road network, DSG will assess initial eligibility and forwards assessment to Council for further approval. The Council’s Tourism and Economic Development Officer will be your point of contact throughout the next stages of the application and installation.
