Council recognises the need to provide recreational opportunities for owners to make use of with their dogs. Council guidelines are displayed at each area to ensure all users (people and canine) enjoy their time in the park.
The following areas have been set aside for creche the off lead exercising of dogs. All areas (except Greens Beach) are fully fenced and dog waste bags and bins are provided.
Trevallyn - Lions Park - Pitt Avenue
Gravelly Beach - Anzac Park - Gravelly Beach Road
Riverside - Windsor Park - West Tamar Hwy (dogs are NOT permitted on any sports ovals and must be on lead in all other areas)
Greens Beach - end of turning circle for 300 metre section of beach (dogs are NOT permitted in any of the dune areas)
These areas (but not limited to) have been identified as areas that the activities of dogs need to be restricted.
Tailrace Park - Dogs must remain on lead at all times in the park area and are not permitted to enter the board walk area along the River, due to safety concerns and the presence of wildlife.
Windsor Park - Dogs are not permitted at any time of the year on any of the playing fields and must remain on lead in all other areas except the declared off lead area.
Lake Louise - Dogs must remain on lead at all times when on the grassed area and surrounding all access points to Lake Louise due to the presence of wildlife.
Bradys Lookout - Dogs must remain on lead at all times due to safety concerns.
Paper Beach - Dogs must remain on lead at all times when using the foreshore track between the public toilets at he end of Paper Beach Road and Swan Point Esplanade due to the close proximity to a prohibited area.
The Esplanade - Dogs must remain on lead at all times when on the park area between the under cover area to the North of the Esplanade and the Public Toilets to the South, including the beach area due to health and safety concerns.
Dogs are not permitted to be taken into the grounds of a school, pre-school, kindergarten, creche, shop, shopping centre, public swimming pool, playing area of a sports ground, or any area within 10 metres of a playground.
Council have also identified the following areas as sensitive areas and as such it is prohibited for dogs to enter (Guide dogs & Hearing dogs permitted).
Dogs are prohibited in any area of the beach (not including walkway) east of the end of Paper Beach Road and west of the end of Swan Point Esplanade including all of Lightfoot Bay and Swan Point sand spit.
Any undeveloped area (where no boardwalk exists) of the sand dunes.
