Greens Beach Golf Club Board member Mary Machen said the al fresco concert concept, today christened as the Greens Beach Summer Bash has been a testament of faith in “build it and they will come”.
Firstly, tacit support was sought from one of Australia’s finest tribute bands, namely the Blues Brothers Revival Band, to give credence to such a gig being feasible.
Lead musician Stephen Ashton responded in the positive.
“Absolutely, we’d love to play at a new venue,” he said.
“Tasmanian musos are suffering so much from a lack of live music venues. This could be the start of an exciting list of bands keen to come and play at your shed.”
“We were so excited and buoyed that we were on the right track when he got back to us,” Ms Machen said, on behalf of her fellow sub-committee, comprising Debbie Coombes and Shaz Moloney.
The organising trio then got to work to compile and present a comprehensive business case to both the Greens Beach Golf Club Board and West Tamar Council.

With Board support and this week’s announcement of discretionary funding to the tune of $2000 thanks to West Tamar Council Mayor, Christina Holmdahl, the Greens Beach Summer Bash will be held on the Sixth Fairway ‘amphitheatre’ around the blue shed, on Saturday, January 3, from 6.15pm.
Ms Machen said finding ways for the Clubhouse to resonate as a community hub had driven her events subcommittee to challenge the issue of “what’s always been done before and look outside the square”.
“Greens Beach on a summer’s evening is a beautiful place to be, this is a scenic course, and we have a friendly clubhouse where everyone is welcome seven days a week, but so often we hear that people think only golfers and tennis club members are welcome.
“For my team it was about coming up with a surefire way to change that misconception.
“We all saw the new blue shed as a big breath of fresh air and space, we just had to think what would give it energy.
“What we’ve come up with is an event we really hope will put the Greens Beach Summer Bash on the Northern Tasmania events calendar.”
The Blues Brothers Revival Band is a nationally recognised band comprising 11 musicians who are currently on a 40-year anniversary tour. Performing for three hours, the band will feature highvoltage hits from the ‘80s cult movie, The Blues Brothers, as well as rhythm and blues classics through the decades.
“We are proud to have such high-energy entertainers playing our inaugural Summer Bash,” Ms Machen said.
“It’s a big leap of faith, and we are looking forward to seeing families and friends getting together, getting up and dancing as the sun goes down.”
“We are proud to be also able to offer a bus transfer service from Beaconsfield via Clarence Point and Kelso to strengthen the message that this gig is for all comers.”
