In 2001 there were 2594 people living in 922 households with an average of 2.8 people per household, which is above the average of 2.2 for Tasmania. 62.6% of the population was aged from 15 to 64 years and 25.3% aged under 15 years. At the time of the census 11.3% of residents were renting their homes while 88.7% were either purchasing or owned their homes outright. From 2001 to April 2004 council approved further subdivisions equalling 80 lots of varying sizes:
In order to accommodate growing needs and to plan adequately for the future of Legana, council held a number of meetings with the local community in relation to developing a Legana Recreation Plan and Community Plan. The community strongly indicated the need for a review of recreational facilities, in particular, the Legana Recreation Ground, a multi-use community facility, current and future use of public open space, playgrounds and equipment and walking trails. Council is currently reviewing the draft Legana Recreation Plan.
Adoption of the plan by council to be advised.
