Key Demographics of West Tamar as at 2006 Census

 

  • There are 20,814 people living in the West Tamar.
  • 64.5% of the population is aged from 15 to 64 years with 15.1% 65+ years and a further 20.4% aged under 15 years.
  • 49.2% of the population is male and 50.8% female.
  • Of those aged 15+ 57.8% are married, 25.8% have never been married, 10.6% are divorced and 5.8% are widowed.
  • English was stated as the only language spoken at home by 92.4%, with the most common languages other than English spoken at home were: Dutch 0.5%, German 0.5%, Italian 0.3%, Cantonese 0.2% and Mandarin 0.2%.
  • 16.2% of households rent, 35.8% are purchasing their home and 42.1% own their home outright.
  • There are 5,808 families: 44.6% of households consist of couples with children, 41.9% of couples without children, 12.5% of one parent families and 1% of other families.
