Community Plan

At its March 2004 meeting council adopted the West Tamar Community Plan. The plan was developed over the preceding 12 months and is complemented by the West Tamar Health & Wellbeing Project August 2002 which was commissioned by the West Tamar Health & Community Service. The West Tamar Community Plan has been developed in conjunction with the West Tamar community. An extensive and thorough community consultation program was undertaken and was a critical element to the success of the completed plan.

The keys of the project were:

  • To develop a better understanding of the key community and social issues
  • To identify what actions can be taken to address key community and social issues including resources, roles and responsibilities and potential strategic alliances
  • To produce a document that will strategically guide the work of council's Community Services Department for the next 5 years and which would be well-accepted by the local community, council and key community organisations.

The principles that underpinned the project included:

  • Building on the knowledge of the local community, community leaders and local organisations.
  • Building on previous studies, local research and community consultations
  • Ensuring that local residents were consulted effectively and those who wished to participate were able to do so.
